The Challenge

Your task is to visit any website of your choice and complete basic interactions using only your keyboard.

Steps to Complete:

Pick a website you use often (e.g., your own, a news site, or an online store).

Put your mouse away. Only use your keyboard.

Use these keys to navigate:

  • Tab – Move forward through links, buttons, and form fields.
  • Shift + Tab – Move backward.
  • Enter – Activate links or buttons.
  • Spacebar – Scroll down.
  • Arrow keys – Navigate dropdowns and scroll pages.

Try to complete a basic task, such as:

  • Finding and clicking a link.
  • Navigating the site menu.
  • Filling out and submitting a form.

Take notes on any issues. Were you able to tell where you were on the page? Could you complete the task easily?

Reflection Questions

  • Could you navigate the entire site?
  • Did you always know where your focus was?
  • Were any buttons or links impossible to reach?
  • Did the site trap your focus, making it hard to leave a section?
